Fledgely

Welcome, Tester! 🎉

Thanks for helping test Fledgely. This 5-minute guide gets you set up — install, connect, and start keeping your family safer online.

⏱ Setup takes about 5 minutes

📋Before you start

Two quick things so everything installs cleanly:

1. The Google account. Use the same Gmail account you gave us as the main account in the Play Store — on your phone and on your child's phone. If they're different accounts, make sure you sent us both.
2. Install from the Play Store only. Always use the buttons below. Never download an APK file — that's the only thing that triggers “blocked” warnings.
Step 1 of 4 · Your phone

📱Install the Parent app

This is your control center — you'll manage everything from here.

  1. Open the Parent link
Tap the button below on your phone.
  2. Tap “Become a tester”, then “Install”
It downloads from the Google Play Store — clean, no warnings.
  3. Open Fledgely → “Get Started”
This creates your family account. No password needed.
▶️ Install the Parent app
Step 2 of 4 · Your phone

Add your child

In the Parent app, tap “Add a child device.” It shows a QR code — keep that screen open; you'll point your child's phone at it next.

Tip: Give the child a name (e.g. “Sara's phone”) so you can tell devices apart later.
Step 3 of 4 · Child's phone

🧒Install the Child app & connect

  1. Scan the QR with the child's phone camera
It opens the Google Play Store → tap Become a testerInstall.
  2. Open Fledgely on the child's phone
    Follow the short setup.
  3. Tap “Scan pairing code” → scan the same QR again
This connects the phone to your family. Done!
▶️ Install the Child app
Scanning twice is normal: once with the camera to install, once inside the Fledgely app to connect.
Step 4 of 4 · Child's phone

🔐Allow the permissions

During setup, Fledgely asks for a few permissions. These are what let it actually apply your rules — please approve each one:

🪟
Display over apps
Shows reminders and lock screens on top.
📊
Usage access
Sees which apps are used, for limits.
🔋
Battery — “Don't optimize”
Keeps Fledgely running reliably.
🛡️
Safe browsing (VPN)
Filters adult & unsafe websites.
All set up with your child's knowledge — Fledgely always shows it's active. Nothing is hidden.
You're connected 🎉

🛟Common issues — quick fixes

Tap any that matches what you're seeing:

Play Store says “App not available” / “not a tester”
Your Play Store is signed into a different Google account than the one you registered. Open the Play Store → tap your profile picture (top-right) → switch to the email you gave us → then open the install link again.
I tapped “Become a tester” but the app still won't install
Tester access can take a few minutes to activate. Wait 5–10 minutes, then open the install link again. It'll be there.
My phone has several Google accounts and keeps picking the wrong one
In the Play Store, switch to your registered account before tapping install (profile picture → choose the right account). The simplest long-term fix is to make sure the account you registered is the main/default account on that phone.
“App not installed” / “package invalid” / “Play Protect blocked it”
This only happens if a raw APK file was downloaded. Don't do that — always install using the Play Store buttons on this page. From the Play Store you'll never see these warnings.
The pairing code didn't work / says expired
The QR codes time out after a while. In the Parent app, tap “Add a child device” again to get a fresh code, then scan it.
The child app isn't applying my rules (locks, limits, messages)
Make sure all the permissions in Step 4 were granted — especially “Display over other apps” and “Usage access.” Re-open Fledgely on the child's phone and finish any setup it still asks for.
My child's phone uses a different Google account than mine
That's fine — both accounts just need to be registered as testers. If you only sent us one email, reply with the second one (the child phone's account) and we'll add it.
